Sportsnet

Sportsnet speech to text AI search engine.

Problem Space

Sportsnet’s main objective is to maintain its position as Canada’s leading sports media brand by continuing to deliver high quality sports content. It aims to enhance its user experience and expand its reach and engagement through innovative content delivery and marketing.

Through surveys, it has been noted that users struggle to find the specific content they are looking for, leading to dissatisfaction and decreased engagement. Users have found it difficult to refine their searches and quickly locate relevant information on the website and mobile experience.

Problem Statement

How might we improve customer experience so that subscribers can easily enjoy their desired sporting events?

y view the sporting events they desire?

Problem Background

Research Insights

User Pain Points

Using Reddit, I gained some knowledge on the issues that plague subscribers. In addition,  I conducted a survey on 15 persons to provide further insights into their experience with Sportsnet.

Supporting Data

  • Over 90% of the persons surveyed were unsatisfied with their ability to find the content they needed on Sportsnet.
  • Fifty-three percent of respondents were interested in an improved search aid for the Sportsnet website.
  • Forty-percent of users were comfortable using AI and advanced technology.

Feedback

The research survey also showed that respondents were comfortable with technology and would be open to a new search feature.

Landing on the Solution

Based on our users' pain points we wanted a solution that was easy to implement and would solve multiple than one customer experience issue.

Explanation of Solution

I have introduced a voice to text search using AI to process the search queries leading to increased efficiency in the platform. Data from the search query is then used for dashboard personalization and content generation.

Future Steps

The average Sportsnet user is well versed in the use of technology and feels comfortable using advanced features to enhance their experience. The next steps would involve continuing to monitor user adoption, daily usage, number of unpaused accounts and revenue generated post launch. These metrics can determine how well the feature has been adopted.

  1. Adapting to an Established Team: Joining the team in week 6 of 8 was challenging, as I had to quickly adapt to existing workflows, dynamics, and goals. This mirrors real-world situations where you often integrate into teams mid-project, and flexibility is essential.
  2. Work-Blocking for Efficiency: With only two weeks to complete the project, I learned the importance of a structured work-blocking system. This approach allowed me to manage my time effectively and meet deadlines under pressure.
  3. Making Data-Driven Design Decisions: Unlike my past projects, I had to rely on research conducted by others. This was a valuable experience in using pre-existing data to guide design decisions, helping me focus on the core insights without starting from scratch.

I learned how important communication is when working with a team. Communication provides understanding, advice, ideas, and much more. While working with the product team, I’ve found that communication keeps everything flowing smoothly. Working with a team also showed me that every member brings something different to the table and we all have to work together in order to align and meet our end goal.
