Problem Statement: How can we leverage artificial intelligence to create a personalized, adaptive fitness app that customizes workout plans, offers intelligent guidance, and addresses barriers like motivation and consistency to help users achieve their unique health goals?
Background: Many struggle with consistent workouts due to lack of knowledge, generic programs, and dynamic adjustments as they progress. AI offers a chance to tailor plans to individual needs, providing real-time feedback and personalization. This can empower users to build sustainable fitness habits and efficiently reach their goals.
Research Insights and Process
A survey was conducted online, targeting a diverse group of participants aged 18 to 70+ with varying levels of workout experience. The survey comprised five questions about exercise and two questions about demographics. A total of 8 responses were collected, ensuring a representative sample across different age groups and workout experiences.
User Pain Points: This research aimed to understand the fitness habits and preferences of various age groups, ranging from 18 to 70+, with varying levels of workout experience. The survey consisted of five questions designed to capture insights about workout frequency, preferred types of exercise, motivation levels, challenges faced, and preferred times for exercising. The data collected reveals a diverse range of fitness habits and preferences across different demographic segments. The data validates that existing workout applications do not provide enough support using the collected data to help users grow continuously along their workout journey.
Conclusion: The survey data provides valuable insights into the diverse fitness habits and preferences across different age groups and experience levels, highlighting the importance of personalized, adaptive workout plans. Younger age groups (18-30) are significantly influenced by social media and prefer high-intensity workouts, finding motivation from quick results and engaging features like gamification.
Older age groups (45+) prioritize health benefits and opt for low-impact exercises, requiring adjustments based on physical limitations and health conditions. Consistently across demographics, time management and physical challenges are the primary obstacles to maintaining regular routines. These insights confirm the need for an AI-powered workout app that offers real-time feedback, personalized recommendations, and adaptability to cater to individual progress and schedule changes.
Solution: By leveraging AI, we can create a dynamic fitness tool that not only addresses these common barriers but also enhances user engagement through tailored experiences, ultimately helping users achieve their fitness goals efficiently and sustainably. The data underscores the potential of AI in revolutionizing fitness planning, making it more accessible, motivating, and effective for a diverse user base.

- Adapting to an Established Team: Joining the team in week 6 of 8 was challenging, as I had to quickly adapt to existing workflows, dynamics, and goals. This mirrors real-world situations where you often integrate into teams mid-project, and flexibility is essential.
- Work-Blocking for Efficiency: With only two weeks to complete the project, I learned the importance of a structured work-blocking system. This approach allowed me to manage my time effectively and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Making Data-Driven Design Decisions: Unlike my past projects, I had to rely on research conducted by others. This was a valuable experience in using pre-existing data to guide design decisions, helping me focus on the core insights without starting from scratch.

I learned how important communication is when working with a team. Communication provides understanding, advice, ideas, and much more. While working with the product team, I’ve found that communication keeps everything flowing smoothly. Working with a team also showed me that every member brings something different to the table and we all have to work together in order to align and meet our end goal.
